Tara’s Summer Beauty Essentials. by tarau
HAIR1. Wide Tooth Wooden Comb. I find this comb is the only thing that can get through my hair on extremely humid days, and is the easiest to clean.2. Head Scarf…because it looks cute and no actual headband can hold back my hair.3. Spin Pins. I’ve mentioned these before, they are AMAZING for putting hair up in buns. Much better then having to constantly wear my hair in pigtail braids and make myself look 12.4. Detangler…because in the summer, my hair likes to dread on itself. MAKEUP5.BB Cream. This stuff works wonders for my skin, and has SPF 15. It’s doesn’t even feel like I’m wearing makeup.6. Victoria’s Secret Noir Summer Perfume. It smells fresh and fruity like a summer perfume, but in a sophisticated, “grown up” way.7. SPF 60+ sunscreen. I need it for my pale skin. This is not the specific brand I use, the brand I use I can’t seem to find online.8. Great Lash lots of lashes Mascara. I’ m super cheap, so I use the cheapest Mascara. I like this much better than the original Great Lash though.9. Nivea Lip Balm. Doesn’t matter what kind, they are all super moisturizing, have SPF, don’t feel sticky, and the best lip balms I have used.10. Tarte Cream Cheek Stain in Tipsy. Gives me an amazing coral, “summery” glow, without hiding my skin in product.

HAIR
1. Wide Tooth Wooden Comb. I find this comb is the only thing that can get through my hair on extremely humid days, and is the easiest to clean.
2. Head Scarf…because it looks cute and no actual headband can hold back my hair.

MAKEUP

University Suvival Guide” by tarau

*Many people are starting to accept their university offers right now, so I decided to make a survival guide, at least for people in Canada and northern United States. I’m going into my third year of university.

1. Rain Boots, and good ones, as well as rain boot socks. You are going to need them if it rains or snows more than once a month where you live.. If you live in a warmer climate, you may be able to get away with wearing them all throughout winter. In comparison, it only got cold enough that I needed warmer boots in January and February. They do not fit the same without the socks in them, and a more expensive pair you have to buy once is better than buying 10 pairs for $20 because they ripped open at the seams due to too much water.

2. Skinny jeans…in case you don’t own a pair. You need something to tuck into those boots. Get ones that feel soft, almost like flannel to the touch on the outside and you will have no excuse to wear sweatpants. I personally like the abercrombie kid ones (yeah, I’m that short), but find your own favourite brand by trying on as many as you can.

3. Flannel shirt. Just as comfy as that hoodie you have been holding onto for years, but makes you look more put together. Just don’t pair it with pigtails or cowboy boots.

4. Multi-purpose makeup. Gets you out the door much quicker so you can sleep in after spending all night writing that 10 page essay, a finance report, and studying for that statistics exam.

5. Backpack. I don’t care if you were able to go throughout high school carrying a lululemon or TNA tote bag, your shoulders are going to kill if you try to carry your books and laptop in that. You need a backpack to distribute the weight, your back will thank you. Try to look for one with a built in area for your laptop for extra protection.

6. Clutch…in a neutral colour. Giant bags are a big no if you are going out; you have to guard it with your arms at all time, get in other people’s way, and are a giant black hole for important things like your id and phone. Clutches, especially ones with wrist straps, allow for easy access to essentials and security, but allow you and other people to move more. Getting one in a neutral colour ensures it goes with anything you may wear out to a bar or club.

7. Printed Scarf. Dresses up the jeans and t-shirt combo instantly and keeps you warm in chilly classrooms.

8. Cheap, Comfy Heals you can actually walk in. Your shoes will get stepped on, spilled on, and scuffed up. Might as well put more money towards tuition and less towards stuff that will get ruined in a drunken mishap. Speaking of drunkenness, everyone hates seeing that girl that is so drunk she thinks she can walk better if she takes off her tiny stilettos. Make sure you can walk in those shoes for hours girl.

9. THE COMFY SHIRT. Everyone needs one. Make it thin enough that people can see your figure, but thick enough that you won’t freeze in the winter. No one likes looking like a potato, and that is all those giant hoodies are going to do for you.

10. Ear Plugs. Your roommate or partner is going to bug you at some point, or you will just need peace and quiet. If possible, you can even show your professor or Teaching Assistant them before an exam and have them hold onto the pack until the exam to prove they are not electronic.

11. Large headband/head wrap and/or a hat. Covers your greasy roots from not washing your hair all week, can change the entire look of your outfit, and keeps heat inside your body.

12. Pattern Shirt. This works like the flannel shirt and printed scarf, instantly look like you put more effort into your outfit because you are not wearing a plain or graphic/logo shirt.

13. For long hair, spin pins. I just got these last month and THEY ARE AMAZING. Don’t have a ponytail? Use a spin pin. Want to do an intricate or cool hairdo for the day? Spin pin it instead of using 20 bobby pins. Need a distraction? spin the spin pins around each other. SPIN PINS.

14. From personal experience….DO NOT GO TO THE UNIVERSITY THAT ALLOWS YOU TO STAY AT HOME! If you are financially able to, get out of your parents house and into a university that requires you to live away from home. The experience you gain from being independent away from home is nothing like going to school and being “independent” under your parents roof. You meet more people and have more opportunities, as well as your parents will actually start to think of you as an adult, and not their little kid totally dependent upon them.
